Information for Patients

Dear patient,

every tissue removed and sent to us is examined by a pathology specialist. We want you to receive the best possible care, prepare the tissue as quickly as possible and make a thorough diagnosis. The report is then automatically sent to the physician.

Please find here further general information about pathology.

Important information about sending a pathology report

We frequently receive requests to send the pathology report directly to patients. Although this is an understandable demand, we are unfortunately not able to comply with this request in general.

The reason for this is that the pathology report must always be interpreted in the context of the overall clinical picture. If a pathology report is viewed in isolation by a layperson (e.g., in the context of a cancer case), and if additional ambiguous information, e.g., from the Internet, is frequently consulted, there is a significant risk of individual misinterpretation of a disease constellation with potentially serious consequences.

Therefore, we refrain from transmitting any pathology report directly to patients. Of course, patients still have the right to receive their report at any time as follows:

  1. Ask the attending physician (the person who removed the tissue - he/she will receive the report automatically) to send the pathology report; or
  2. ask the family physician to request the pathology report from us in writing or by fax. The fax number is listed on our homepage. The physician will then deliver the report - accompanied by the appropriate medical explanations that may be necessary - to the patient.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
