About us

Our team was founded in January 1998. Being part of the psychiatric hospital at the ‘München rechts der Isar’ (MRI), which belongs to the Technical University of Munich (TUM), we are responsible for neuropsychological patient care (mainly diagnostics), neuropsychological research, and academic teaching of neuropsychology.

In patient care, we are busy with functional diagnoses of neurocognitive impairments (deficits of attention, memory, speech, executive functions and so on) as well as with general psychodiagnostics by means of standardised psychometric tests and questionnaires. Our main focus is on early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases (‘dementia diagnosis’) and on assessment and evaluation of neurocognitive deficits in schizophrenic and affective disorders.

Furthermore, we look at patients of other hospitals that belong to the MRI, for example those of psychosomatics, neurology and toxicology. Therefore, we use a broad range of psychometric methods, including the latest computerised assessment tools. Depending on the diagnostic question, psychometric methods for the measurement of intelligence and personality as well as scales for (self-)description of psychopathological symptoms are being applied additionally.

Please note: Our services can only be called for by inpatients or outpatients of the MRI hospital. Exception: Expert opinion on neuropsychological and other psychodiagnostical questions for court or for private and satutory insurances (health, retirement, occupational disability).

When doing research, we mainly focus on investigating neurocognitive impairments in patients suffering from the dementias, schizophrenias, and affective disorders, with special reference to disease course under various treatment conditions and the prognostic value of neurocognitive impairments for treatment outcome. Moreover, we develop and prove psychodiagnostic methods, regarding for example the examination of memory disorders, the description of schizotypal personality features, and the estimation of premorbid intelligence levels. For many years we have gained experience in developing clinical and experimental methods for the measurement of morbogenic and pharmacogenic movement disorders.

We also contribute to the teaching of medical students of the MRI / TUM as well as instructing psychological trainees from other universities. We also provide supervision of psychological diploma projects and of medical or psychological dissertations.
