Our histopathological laboratory is the key laboratory for our daily histopathological routine diagnostics. Representing an institute of pathology at a hopsital severing maximum care for our patients (Klinikum rechts der Isar) and also open for external senders, our institute of pathology at Technical university deals with patient samples and surgical material from approx. 25,000 patients treated every year.

Our histopathological laboratory currently employs 12 members in technical staff with wide-ranging expertise in histopathology and histochemistry. Our laboratory offers the complete spectrum of state of the art histopathological examinations of biopsy and surgical material - including histochemical special stains and the preparation of large slide sections. Surgical specimen that contain bone tissue (bone biopsies, bone marrow punches, etc.) are processed using various decalcification techniques. Urgent samples is given preferential treatment; as a rule, the corresponding findings can be transmitted on the same day or, depending on the sample size and shape, at the latest on the morning of the next day.
In addition, a special service for intraoperative frozen sections is offered daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please also note our information for senders when sending material for histological assessment. For certain diagnostic areas (e.g. liver diagnostics, bone marrow diagnostics), clinical information is essential for histological interpretation. We kindly ask you to enclose the standard submission and special documents, carefully filled in, with the appropriate samples for a quick assessment. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Telephone number for inquiries (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.): 089 4140 4168.
