This lecture offers an insight about what kind of instruments are used in surgery. Medical Instrumentation is automatically associated with the acquirement of skills which are related to the use of electrocautery, C-arm and attachment for anastomosis. However, the so called attachment field is only a partition of all the instruments used in surgery. Hardware requirements are just as important as storing possibilities (e.g. operation desks). Furthermore, the students are familiarized with the actual surgical basic instruments. This is obligatory necessary, because the biggest part of interventions is performed with the traditional instruments. Understanding the functional principle and the application area of the basic instruments is also an essential requirement to understand challenging, modern attachment technologies.
